On the promontory of Grignano, at the end of the Barcola coastline, are located the castle and park of Miramare, built at the wish of Maximilian of Hapsburg, brother of the Emperor Franz Joseph. With his consort Carlotta, Maximilian lived in Miramare Castle until his departure on the Mexican adventure and its tragic end. The castle preserves the original furniture of the time. Of particular interest are bedroom and the study of the Archduke. It was Maximilian himself who attended to the creation of the park, to the choice of the various species of plant, and to the layout of paths with such romantic names as the "Path of the Camellias" and the "Path of the Poets".
